Marie of Beach Baker Joins Women in Property Winter Thames Walk

Marie from Beach Baker recently attended a winter walking event organised by Women in Property, joining members and non‑members for a refreshing break from the working day and an opportunity to enjoy London on foot—despite the rain.
The hour‑long walk followed both sides of the River Thames, passing through parks and gardens and taking in some of the capital’s most recognisable landmarks, including the Houses of Parliament, South Bank, and the London Eye, which created a striking backdrop in wet winter conditions.
A key focus of the walk was the recognition of influential women from history. Participants visited the statue of Mary Seacole, celebrating her legacy as a nurse and humanitarian, and the memorial to Violette Szabo GC, honouring the bravery of the World War II heroine.
Reflecting on the experience, Marie highlighted some eye‑opening facts shared during the walk:
“While on the walk, I found out that there are only 28 named non‑royal statues of women in London, which equates to just around three per cent, compared with around 300 dedicated to named men. Another interesting fact is that there are more statues of animals in London than there are of women.”
With winter making it easy to remain desk‑bound, the event underscored the importance of getting fresh air, exercising and engaging in conversation away from computer screens. The walk concluded with informal networking over coffee at Amorino Gelato, giving attendees the chance to warm up and continue discussions in a relaxed and sociable setting.
