Marie Skuce recently got a sneak peek at one of London’s most exciting cultural projects—the new London Museum. Set to open in 2026, this huge development is breathing new life into the historic Smithfield General Market and Poultry Market, blending the city’s past with its future.

The event, hosted by Women in Property, offered an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the restoration work underway. The group started in the Smithfield Poultry Market, where they saw firsthand how the space is being transformed. Then, they walked through West Poultry Avenue into the General Market for an in-depth tour, taking in the scale of the work being done—think 10,000 square meters of cleaned brickwork, reinforced roofing, and the rediscovery of underground vaults that had been hidden for years.

Reflecting on the visit, Marie said:

"A fantastic insight into the development of the new London Museum, a vast expansive space that will showcase London—past, present, and future. It's going to be exciting to see this museum in action."

After the tour, attendees had the chance to chat over coffee, sharing thoughts on the project and its impact on London’s cultural scene. The visit highlighted how the museum will not only celebrate the city’s rich history but also create a dynamic space for exhibitions, learning, and storytelling for years to come.

With phase one opening in 2026 and phase two following in 2028, there’s a lot to look forward to. For those who love history, architecture, and innovation, this project is definitely one to watch!
