Overview:
On behalf of our client, a major UK consultancy, we are seeking a Director to lead and develop the Leeds Planning Team. This role involves building and expanding client opportunities, delivering high-quality planning permissions and allocations, and working closely with our multi-sector offices across the UK in well as the wider UK Planning business.
What This Job Involves:
As a key member of our team, you will:
- Lead the Leeds Planning Team: Provide support and inspiration to foster team growth.
- Develop a Strong Planning Business: Build relationships within the organization, including residential and industrial land teams, to create and grow opportunities.
- Client Engagement: Work closely with new and existing clients, both internal and external, to drive opportunities and revenue growth.
- Collaborate with the UK Planning Team: Integrate seamlessly with the broader planning team to deliver outstanding results.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Team Management: Support and manage the Leeds Planning Team, bringing support and motivation.
- Business Development: Build a robust planning business, leveraging internal relationships to grow opportunities.
- Client Relations: Engage with clients to deliver opportunities and achieve revenue growth.
- Planning Team Integration: Actively participate in the UK Planning Team, contributing to its success.
Desired Experience and Skills:
- Proven Expertise: Skilled town planner with a strong track record.
- Commercial Insight: Understanding of market conditions and business development to promote and grow the team.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience in major mixed-use, commercial/employment, and residential development projects.
- Leadership: Capable of building, leading, and managing a Leeds Planning Team.
- Communication: Natural communicator who works effectively across different business lines.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Qualified Town Planner: Possession of relevant credentials (MRTPI or equivalent).
- Talent Development: Ability to nurture talent, manage succession planning, and build a high-performing team.
- Regional Reputation: Existing reputation and client base within the Midlands region.
- Project Management: Experience with complex projects, including addressing constraints and phasing.
- Analytical Skills: Skilled in analysing/challenging evidence such as housing supply numbers and employment land supply.
- Negotiation: Expertise in negotiating s106/affordable housing agreements, including city/town centre development.
- Expert Witness: Experience serving as an expert witness in relevant proceedings.
- Strategic Presentation: Ability to present ideas, strategies, and opinions to grow the UK Planning business.
- Engagement: Naturally engaging, influential individual with strong communication skills.
- Organizational Skills: Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
- Fee and Team Management: Competence in managing fees and team dynamics.
